Program/Service Description*

This is an emergency shelter for women escaping abuse from their intimate partners. It provides a safe environment for women and their children at critical turning points in their lives. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week with free emergency transportation provided to bring women and their children to the shelter. Support services include crisis intervention, assessment, support, referrals and counselling to both women and children affected by spousal abuse.

Description of Organization YWCA Sudbury, a registered charity and volunteer women’s organization, is part of the world-wide YWCA movement. With special emphasis on women, YWCA Sudbury works to empower all individuals to reach their full potential in body, mind, and spirit. Services include YWCA Genevra House / shelter program, transitional and housing support program, and the supportive counselling program all of which are aimed at reducing or eliminating violence against women. Service coordination provides central access and coordination within the adult developmental service system in the District of Sudbury and Manitoulin.
